Voters of Dalton need to vote in person at the Municipal Building Gymnasium on Tuesday July 30th at 7:00pm.

On July 23, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Municipal Building Gymnasium a Public Hearing will be held to discuss zoning ordinances being proposed for Dalton.
”Shall the town vote to adopt the provisions of RSA 674: 24-29 entitled ‘ Emergency Zoning & Planning Ordinances’ ?”
How to vote and participate:
Check to see if you are registered to vote, as that is the only way they can vote on July 30th at the Special Town Meeting.
A session for the Supervisors of the Checklist will be held on Saturday, July 20th from 11 am to Noon or longer if needed. People can go to the Town Clerk to fill out a voter registration form or check if they are registered prior to July 20th (if you are not in the area or able to see them on July 20th).
Please visit the town site for helpful links, Voter Identification Information, and Town Meeting Rules of Procedure. These are usually really helpful so that anyone coming to register to vote, or later for the meetings know what they need etc.
On May 20th Jon Swan presents the Selectboard of Dalton with a petition including 103 signatures to present Emergency Temporary Zoning to the voters of Dalton. (Meeting minutes can be found here)
The petition requires only 5% of the residents and with a population of less than 1000 people there only needed to be under 50 signatures to start this ball rolling.
There is a required public hearing (July 23rd) not more than 7 calendar days before the proposed special town meeting (July 30th). There shall be reasonable opportunity for debate of such question at such town meeting before balloting commences.
Voting shall be by ballot, with the use of the checklist used at the most recent annual meeting plus any new registrations, and the polls shall remain open at least 2 hours after debate has ended for the casting of ballots.
If the question in paragraph I receives affirmative votes amounting at least to a majority of those present and voting, the provisions of RSA 674:24-29 shall take effect forthwith in the town and shall remain in effect until 2 annual town meetings shall have been held or the voters of the town consider a zoning ordinance as provided for by this chapter, whichever period of time is the lesser.
